About Zoe

I am a fully qualified and insured remedial massage therapist. I am currently training in Classical Chinese acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine at the International College of Oriental Medicine. My training includes anatomy and physiology, clinical assessment, and soft tissue techniques.

I am dedicated to helping you feel your best. I combine knowledge of anatomy and physiology with a compassionate approach to support your recovery, reduce pain, and improve your everyday well-being.

Everyone is unique, so no two treatments are the same. I take time to understand what's going on, starting with a thorough assessment and talking through what has brought you in. By looking at the factors contributing to your pain, tension or restricted movement, we can work together towards improving how you feel and move, and supporting you in getting back to what matters to you.

What is a remedial massage?

Remedial massage is hands-on therapy for muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia.

Every session starts with an assessment: your health history, what brought you in, and where relevant, posture, movement and simple orthopaedic tests. This means I treat the cause, not just where you feel the pain.

Treatment may include deep tissue work, trigger points, stretching, neuromuscular technique (NMT) and soft tissue release (STR). The aim is to reduce tension, improve movement and support your body’s natural recovery.

Remedial massage can help with:

  • Muscular aches, pains and tension
  • Recovery from minor muscle, tendon or ligament injuries
  • Movement and flexibility where soft tissues are restricted
  • Neck, shoulder and back pain
  • Tension headaches from muscle tightness
  • Physical effects of stress and anxiety

Frequently asked questions

What happens at my first appointment? +

Your first appointment includes time to talk about what's brought you in, your medical history, and other symptoms or concerns you may have. If appropriate, I may carry out a postural assessment or some simple movement or orthopaedic tests to help me understand what may be contributing to your symptoms. We'll then discuss my findings and agree on a treatment plan before we begin.

After your treatment, I may provide simple stretching tips or exercises to help support your recovery and keep you feeling your best.

How much massage time will I receive? +

The length of your appointment includes time for your consultation, getting changed, the massage itself, and aftercare advice. A 1 hour appointment is approximately 45-50 minutes of massage time, and a 45 minute appointment is approximately 30-35 minutes.

How many massage sessions will I need? +

It depends on your individual needs, the nature of the problem and how long you've been experiencing it. Acute issues may respond quite quickly, while longer-term or recurring problems can take more time and may benefit from regular treatment.

I don't prescribe a set number of sessions. I'll assess how you respond to treatment, and we can review your progress together as we go. Some people may only need one session, while others feel a significant difference after one or two, and others may benefit from a short course of regular treatments. Some clients choose maintenance appointments to help manage long-term conditions or stress. For maintenance and general wellbeing, monthly sessions are a common and effective approach.

Is massage beneficial for stress, anxiety and depression? +

When we're stressed or anxious, the body can become stuck in a prolonged "fight or flight" mode, leaving us feeling tense, restless and unable to switch off fully. Massage can help encourage the body towards its natural "rest and digest" state, easing muscular tension and promoting a sense of calm and relaxation.

For some people, massage can be a valuable part of managing stress and supporting emotional wellbeing.

Can I just have a back, neck and shoulder massage? +

Yes, absolutely! A back, neck, and shoulder massage is great for easing stress and tension, helping you unwind and relax.

What should I wear to my massage? +

For most treatments, clients undress down to their underwear. You will be professionally draped with towels throughout the treatment, with only the area being worked on uncovered at any time.

However, your comfort always comes first. If you don't feel comfortable undressing to your underwear, you can wear loose-fitting shorts or lightweight clothing instead. You can also choose to keep clothing on over areas that aren't being treated. For example, if you're having treatment on your back, neck and shoulders, you can keep your clothing on your lower half if you prefer.

If you'd rather remain fully clothed, just wear something light and loose-fitting that allows me to work through them or to access the areas being treated.

For treatments involving the upper back, a bra with a back fastening is ideal, although I can work around your clothing if needed.

There is no right or wrong choice! I'll always respect your preferences and make sure you're comfortable throughout your treatment.

Does remedial massage hurt? +

Remedial massage can involve firm or focused pressure but should not hurt. I'll work with you to find the right pressure and techniques for your needs. You are always in control. Some techniques used can cause discomfort, but I will always check in with you and adjust to a level that you are comfortable with before and during treatment.

In some cases, you may feel a little sore (as if you've overexercised) after treatment for up to 48 hours, this is perfectly normal. If you have any issues after 48hrs or you feel concerned at any time, please get in touch.

Are there any reasons I may not be able to have a massage? +

In most cases, massage is suitable. But certain medical conditions, injuries or medications may mean treatment needs to be adapted or postponed. Before your appointment, you'll be asked to complete a confidential health questionnaire, and if needed, I may ask you to check with your GP or specialist to make sure that massage is safe and appropriate for you.

I am always happy for you to email or message me with any questions or concerns, or if you'd like to chat through anything before booking.

Do you diagnose medical conditions or injuries? +

No, I am not qualified to diagnose medical conditions or injuries. However, I can assess how your muscles and soft tissues are moving and functioning, identify areas of tension, tightness or restriction, and use what I find to guide your treatment. If anything suggests you need a formal diagnosis, or falls outside what massage can safely help with, I will always recommend you see your GP or an appropriate specialist.

What happens if I'm late for my massage appointment? +

If you're running late for your appointment, please email or message me and let me know.

I will do my best to give you your full appointment time, taking into consideration other appointments and the time needed between clients for cleaning. If I can't accommodate this your treatment will finish as scheduled.

What is your cancellation policy? +

If you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours' notice where possible. Missed appointments or cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice may be charged at the full appointment fee.
